Six armed men were reportedly captured following a clash between an Arakan Army (ULA/AA) security patrol and a group believed to include members of ARSA and the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) in southern Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, according to local military sources.
The clash took place near Gyin Taw Village around midnight on August 30, when an AA patrol encountered the armed group, which was alleged to have crossed into the area from neighbouring Bangladesh.
Fighting broke out after the two sides came into contact, a local military source told Lay Waddy FM.
A military source in Maungdaw said that six armed members of the group were captured alive during the confrontation. The identities of those detained and further details about the incident could not be independently verified at the time of reporting.
Security has been tightened in Maungdaw’s border areas in recent weeks amid reports of armed attacks, kidnappings and extortion.
The Arakan administration imposed a nighttime curfew in Maungdaw beginning on August 9, citing security concerns in the border region. Authorities have also increased patrols and established checkpoints in and around Maungdaw town.
Local sources say armed groups operating along the Rakhine-Bangladesh border, including ARSA, RSO and other groups, have been accused of carrying out ambush attacks, kidnappings and robberies, contributing to growing insecurity for civilians living in the area.
