Rakhine Youth Launched Campaign To Label Min Aung Hlaing as “Genocide Perpetrator”

Following a devastating airstrike on two private high schools in Kyauktaw, which massacered youths, a campaign led by Rakhine youth abroad has begun to label military leader Min Aung Hlaing as a “Genocide Perpetrator.”

The campaign was initiated by Rakhine youth across the globe following the bombardment of high schools with 500-pound bombs on the night of September 12. They started the movement online, sharing photos of the students who were killed.

To ensure the campaign reaches a global audience, they are using the keyword “O World.”

Next to a photo of Min Aung Hlaing, the words “Genocide Perpetrator” are prominently displayed, along with details of the airstrike in five languages: English, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, and Chinese.

The military junta has been frequently conducting airstrikes on towns they have lost control of in Rakhine State, leading to the frequent deaths of dozens of civilians, including children and women.

Within the last year alone, military commission’s airstrikes have caused mass casualties on a near-monthly basis: 15 deaths on August 25, 20 deaths in May, 28 deaths on January 18, 26 deaths on January 8, and now 22 deaths on September 11.

The continuous mass casualties from these almost monthly airstrikes are what prompted the start of this campaign to label him as a perpetrator of genocide.

In response to the attack that took place at Thayet Tapin village, Kyauktaw township, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has issued a statement urging an end to the killing of children.

Meanwhile, the military commission’s propaganda channels are claiming that the airstrike targeted an Arakan Army (AA) military training camp.
