The Arakan Army (AA) has reportedly imposed a curfew in several towns in southern Rakhine State, including Thandwe, Taungup and Gwa, according to local sources.

The curfew reportedly covers a stretch of towns and urban areas from Gwa, near the border with Ayeyarwady Region, through Kyeintali, Thandwe, Ngapali, Jittaw and Taungup. The order was reportedly issued as a security measure for local residents.

“The curfew was imposed after the area came under heavy airstrikes. Authorities are also conducting patrols in the towns and arresting people they consider suspicious,” a local resident said.

The curfew was reportedly imposed under orders from military regional commanders, with entry and exit points in towns across southern Rakhine State being subject to tighter restrictions.

Since August 23, people found travelling or moving around between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. have reportedly been arrested and subjected to action under the curfew order.

Towns in southern Rakhine State are currently facing junta airstrikes, while authorities are reportedly tightening security and imposing stricter controls across the region.
