Residents living in coastal areas of Gwa and Thandwe townships in southern Rakhine State have been ordered by the Arakan Army (AA) to evacuate urgently following simultaneous attacks by Myanmar military naval forces on coastal villages, according to local sources.

Residents in coastal wards were warned about five days ago to relocate, and we are now moving,” a resident from a coastal area in Thandwe Township told Lay Waddy FM.

On September 3, the Myanmar military reportedly launched simultaneous attacks using naval artillery targeting Gwa Beach, Kyeintali Beach, Gyeik Taw Beach, and nearby villages.

This morning, we heard the sound of artillery fire nearly three times, but we do not know where the shells landed,” a local source from Thandwe said.

The Arakan Army has also issued an urgent notice urging the public to take special precautions regarding maritime security.

Military junta warships have reportedly been stationed in waters off Gwa, Thandwe, Sittwe, Manaung, and Kyaukphyu townships, from where they have frequently shelled coastal areas with heavy weapons.
